1000 school shoes for 40 schools around Gauteng

In a bid to help alleviate the impact of COVID-19 in our local communities especially affected school learners, we partnered with the Youngage Foundation on the school shoe donation drive that aims to deliver 1000 school shoes to 40 schools around Gauteng.

The Youngage Foundation, is an organisation founded by the Young Woman Group which aims to empower young women, men, youth, and teenagers to participate in taking responsible action to shape their lives and the communities they live in. The organisation actively seeks out public–private partnerships to strengthen their hands-on community development initiatives, that help create sustainable in communities.

At RMA education is a key focus area for our business and is close to our hearts, that is why we are committed to empowering the communities we serve and supporting school and youth projects that help learners reach their dreams.

25 learners at Dikgabane Primary School were given new school shoes as part of Youngage's school shoe donation drive.

Dikgabane Primary School was the latest school to receive 25 pairs of shoes from the Youngage foundation.

Since the start of the project, the team were on the road almost every day, to ensure that 25 pairs of school shoes are donated to a school in need each day. The schools donated to were situated in Pretoria, Soweto, Eastrand, Westrand, Pretoria, and Johannesburg Central.

The Youngage Foundation runs the school shoe donation drive annually, supporting many schools in need, but given the circumstances of the global pandemic, local families were hit hard this year and many parents in these communities have suffered irreversible hardships.

RMA believes that the school shoe donation will go a long way to helping to relieve the financial burden on parents needing to buy school shoes for learners.

RMA Pensioner, wins first place in Wheelchair Marathon

Mr. Ndiphiwe Mpokwana is one of our RMA pensioners residing in the rural area of Elliotdale in the Eastern Cape. He was injured in 1979 and has been in a wheelchair ever since, but this has not restricted him in participating in daily living activities. He is an athlete and has participated in many marathons for the disabled, hosted by the Madwaleni Hospital, and has won many trophies for taking first place.

Mr. Mpokwana was participating in these races with his current wheelchair, which he personally adjusted and altered for the races. To assist our pensioner in his endeavor to continue with his training and winning marathons, RMA has offered to sponsor all the necessary adjustments and alterations to make Mr. Mpokwana’s wheelchair safe and marathon ready.

He is also involved in various activities such as sewing and leather work, which keeps him active and has helped him sustain his health and wellbeing, and as a result, he was never been admitted in hospital for pressure ulcers.

We see it as a privilege to help our pensioners further their skills. We enjoy seeing people, reaching for their dreams, and achieving their goals, no matter their circumstances. Lending a helping hand is what warms our hearts.

RMA pensioner runs his own disability centre

Mr.Motlogi, is an RMA pensioner from a town called Taung in the Northern Cape, who has suffered a spinal cord injury, but this did not discourage him from helping others in his community living with disabilities. He decided to open and run his own disability centre called the Obakeng Disability Organisation to assist some members of the community who are living with disabilities.

The Obakeng Disability Centre offers food and recreational activity for the community members living with disabilities. It started off with just 3 individuals and is now taking care of more than 25 people.

At RMA the health and wellbeing of our pensioners and the communities they live in is at the heart of our business. We were inspired to see one of our pensioners taking action and encouraging change in his community and have sponsored The Obakeng Disability Centre, with resources to assist with the day to day running of the organisation including food, hygiene supplies and mobility aids. We will also assist with some renovations to the facility to accommodate more people.

Mr. Motlog is one of our very own pensioners who is providing support and adding value to his community members, he really is an inspiration to us all.
